The trailer for the new horror-comedy “Renfield” has arrived with a first look at Nicolas Cage playing Dracula opposite Nicholas Hoult as his faithful servant…
A new horror-comedy will explore the damaged relationship between one ancient vampire and the servant who has reached his breaking point after answering his every beck-and-call for many, many years.
That’s the premise behind the film “Renfield,” which stars Nicolas Hoult in the title role as the man who has been serving at Dracula’s side but now he’s starting to feel that this toxic relationship needs to come to an end. After meeting a traffic cop played by Awkwafina, Renfield begins thinking of ways he could cut ties with Dracula but it’s much easier said than done.
Oh yeah, forgot to mention — Dracula is being played by none other than Nicholas Cage.
Here’s the official synopsis for the movie from Universal:
“In this modern monster tale of Dracula’s loyal servant, Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road, X-Men franchise) stars as Renfield, the tortured aide to history’s most narcissistic boss, Dracula (Oscar® winner Nicolas Cage). Renfield is forced to procure his master’s prey and do his every bidding, no matter how debased. But now, after centuries of servitude, Renfield is ready to see if there’s a life outside the shadow of The Prince of Darkness. If only he can figure out how to end his codependency.”
This will actually be Cage’s first major role in a studio film since 2011’s “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance,” although the Oscar winner has stayed plenty busy in numerous independent films including the critically acclaimed horror film “Mandy” as well as “Pig” in 2021.
Now Cage will strap on the fangs to play Dracula with all the delicious, over the top mannerisms you could possibly expect from the veteran thespian.
“Renfield” opens in theaters on April 14 but for now take a look at the first trailer for the film.
