Netflix has revealed a whole bunch of release dates for films coming in 2023 including the highly anticipated space epic “Rebel Moon” from director Zack Snyder…
In a special hype video to tease upcoming films in 2023, Netflix revealed the first look at several new titles as well as the release dates for those films.
Perhaps the most highly anticipated release of the year won’t come until December 22 when Zack Snyder will unleash his upcoming outer space epic called “Rebel Moon,” which features “Sons of Anarchy” star Charlie Hunnam, Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Bae Doona, Ray Fisher, Corey Stoll and Anthony Hopkins providing a voice role.
Here’s the synopsis for “Rebel Moon” ahead of its release:
“When a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, they dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past named Kora to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand.”
“Rebel Moon” is part of a bigger overall story that Snyder plans to release with Netflix with a sequel to the movie already ordered. Snyder has said that he hopes the film will be successful, which will then lead to an even bigger, sprawling universe can be built out of “Rebel Moon” with all sorts of spinoff and sequel possibilities.
Of course, “Rebel Moon” comes after Snyder previously directed the zombie action film “Army of the Dead,” which was a hit for Netflix.
Another movie to look forward to in 2023 will land on Netflix on November 10 from director David Fincher with his film “The Killer.” While Fincher’s presence is enough to get excited about, this film will also mark a reunion with screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker after they previously teamed together on the 1995 film “Se7en.”
This time around, Walker is adapting a script from a French graphic novel of the same name that was written by Alexis Nolent with illustrations from Luc Jacamon. Here’s the synopsis for “The Killer.”
“After a fateful near-miss an assassin battles his employers, and himself, on an international manhunt he insists isn’t personal.”
Another science-fiction/fantasy film coming in 2023 will serve as another collaboration between Netflix and “Stranger Things” star Millie Bobby Brown with her new film “Damsel,” which drops on October 13. Here’s the synopsis for that film:
“A dutiful damsel agrees to marry a handsome prince, only to find the royal family has recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt. Thrown into a cave with a fire-breathing dragon, she must rely on her wits and will to survive.”
A psychological thriller called “Leave the World Behind” will be released on December 10, which stars Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, Ethan Hawke, Myha’la, Farrah Mackenzie, Charlie Evans and Kevin Bacon. That film is based on a book of the same name. Here’s the synopsis for that one:
“A family vacation on Long Island is interrupted by two strangers bearing news of a mysterious blackout. As the threat grows more imminent, both families must decide how best to survive the potential crisis, all while grappling with their own place in this collapsing world.”
There’s plenty more coming from Netflix in 2023 with a total of 49 titles coming this year. Check out the new hype video and see what you’ll be watching over the next 12 months.
