Two new Marvel series got debut dates on Disney+ with “Loki” season 2 and the “Hawkeye” spinoff “Echo” both arriving in late 2023…
Marvel Studios has considerably slowed the amount of new series landing on Disney+ but there are still two more major productions set to arrive in 2023 after “Secret Invasion” launches on June 21.
First up is “Loki” season 2, which debuts on October 6 with Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson both set to return while “Echo” — a direct spinoff from the “Hawkeye” series — dropping on November 29. A big difference with “Echo” from every other major Marvel series is that show will launch with all episodes streaming on Nov. 29 rather than week-to-week releases.
“Echo” stars Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez — a deaf, Native American assassin, who is first introduced during “Hawkeye” as she seeks revenge on Clint Barton after believing he killed her father while serving as Ronin during the five year blip after Thanos wiped out half of life in the universe. In the end, Maya discovers that it was Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) behind her family’s downfall and she turns on him after initially acting on his orders.
The new series will star Cox with D’Onofrio and “Daredevil” star Charlie Cox also set to make appearances.
As for “Loki,” that series will pick up after the events in season 1 ended where Sylvie — the Loki variant from another part of the multiverse — decided to exact her own revenge on “He Who Remains,” a variant of Kang the Conquerer, who had kept the multiverse from spinning out of control under his watchful eye. His death caused the multiverse to splinter and spiral out from the one true timeline and when Loki returns to his own world, he finds statues of Kang have been erected in a much different version of the place he previously left behind.
Sophia DiMartino will also return for “Loki” season 2 as Sylvie while Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan will also join the cast. Jonathan Majors is also expected to return as another Kang variant, although his appearance wasn’t mentioned during the announcement as the actor continues to face domestic violence charges in New York.
With “Secret Invasion” due out in June followed by “Loki” season 2 in October and “Echo” in November, that will likely be the only Marvel Series debuting in 2023. Two other shows — “Ironheart” and “Agatha: House of Harkness” are expected to be pushed back until 2024.
