Jennifer Garner will pick up her sais again for the upcoming sequel “Deadpool 3” as she reprises her role as Elektra…
In one of the more unexpected bits of casting news, Jennifer Garner will reprise her role as Elektra for the upcoming “Deadpool 3” sequel, which stars Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth as well as Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine.
Garner’s addition comes 18 years after she starred in her own solo “Elektra” movie, which was not well received by critics or audiences but it was notable because it was one of the few female led comic book films, which sadly remains a rarity.
She first appeared as Elektra Natchios in 2003’s “Daredevil” where she starred alongside future ex-husband Ben Affleck as the Man Without Fear. Garner was one of the few highlights of that movie (alongside a really fun version of Bullseye played by Colin Farrell) and despite “Daredevil” not exactly becoming a huge hit at the box office, she was given her own spinoff movie two years later.
Now Garner will suit up as Elektra again for “Deadpool 3,” which is currently in production with “Stranger Things” veteran Shawn Levy directing the project.
Garner appearing as Elektra seems to lean into the theory that the upcoming “Deadpool 3” sequel will cross boundaries in the multiverse, eventually connecting the worlds between the Fox characters such as the X-Men and the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. While most of the X-Men characters aren’t expected to crossover, Deadpool is one of the few who will survive the purge with rumors swirling that the sequel will somehow involve the Time Variance Authority, which first popped in in the “Loki” TV series, which has a second season coming later this year.
With Garner making an appearance, it wouldn’t be a total shock to see other past faces pop up in “Deadpool 3,” although it remains to be seen how much of a role any of them will play in the movie.
