The first look at “The Exorcist Believer” has arrived with a terrifying new trailer that ties back to the original film including the return of Ellen Burstyn…
From the first sound of Tubular Bells, the stage is set for the first look at “The Exorcist Believer” — the new film from “Halloween” and “Halloween Kills” director David Gordon Green.
With ties back to the original film but not any of the subsequent sequels, “The Exorcist Believer” will introduce a new twist in the possession genre when two girls go missing before returning three days later yet they both believe they’ve only been gone a few hours.
It’s safe to say what follows proves that these little girls brought back something inside of them — and the terrifying results require an intervention of biblical proportions. Here’s the official synopsis for the film from Universal and Blumhouse:
“Since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding (Tony winner and Oscar® nominee Leslie Odom, Jr.; One Night in Miami, Hamilton) has raised their daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett, Good Girls) on his own.
“But when Angela and her friend Katherine (newcomer Olivia Marcum), disappear in the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, it unleashes a chain of events that will force Victor to confront the nadir of evil and, in his terror and desperation, seek out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like it before: Chris MacNeil.
“For the first time since the 1973 film, Oscar® winner Ellen Burstyn reprises her iconic role as Chris MacNeil, an actress who has been forever altered by what happened to her daughter Regan five decades before.”
The iconic Ellen Burstyn makes her appearance in the new trailer as the parents of these girls seek her out to see if she can help their daughters much like what happened with Regan in “The Exorcist” back in 1973. We even see one of the girls scribble the name REGAN during the trailer, which begs the question what happened to her after the events in that original film?
All those questions will be answered when “The Exorcist Believer” drops on Friday, October 13 in theaters — but for now check out the new trailer!
