“Wonder Woman 3” still isn’t in the works at DC with no current plans to develop the film despite Gal Gadot teasing a possible return as the character…
Gal Gadot loves playing Wonder Woman but all signs are pointing towards her not playing the character again.
It was this past December when DC Studios effectively killed plans for “Wonder Woman 3” after passing on a treatment for the film by director Patty Jenkins, who subsequently split with the project. Incoming co-CEO’s James Gunn and Peter Safran then started designing plans for an entirely new shared DC Universe across films, television and animation that would cut ties with previous versions of the characters, which included Gadot’s take on Wonder Woman.
More recently, however, Gadot had teased meetings with Gunn and Safran were she claimed promises were made about potentially developing a third “Wonder Woman” movie with her involved.
“I love portraying Wonder Woman,” Gadot told ComicBook.com “It’s so close to and dear to my heart. From what I heard from James and from Peter is that we’re gonna develop a ‘Wonder Woman 3’ together.”
Well it turns out that’s not exactly the case.
According to a new report from Variety, DC Studios made no such promise to Gadot that “Wonder Woman 3” would eventually go back into development and there were no active discussions whatsoever that she would return as the character in the new shared DC Universe. As of now, Gunn — who leads the creative side of things at the studio — hasn’t rolled out any plans to re-introduce Wonder Woman just yet outside of an upcoming “Paradise Lost” series — a prequel that takes place on island of Themyscira before Wonder Woman is born.
Outside of that, Gunn and Safran have remained focused on the full slate of DC related projects previously announced, which includes the highly anticipated “Superman: Legacy” film due out in 2024.
There are also projects involving a new Batman as well as Green Lantern but there are no plans in place for Wonder Woman just yet much less Gadot returning as the character.
While anything could change in the future, by all accounts Gadot has probably swung her lasso of truth for the last time.
