The second half of the “Yellowstone” final season will now air in November 2024 with two more spinoffs already in the works…
The next phase of the “Yellowstone” universe is beginning to take shape.
With the unexpected end of the main series already announced following the departure of series star Kevin Costner, the second half of “Yellowstone” season 5 — which will be the final season for the show — will finally debut on the Paramount Network in November 2024.
The series was originally supposed to return before the end of 2023 but the writer’s and actors’ strikes put an end to those plans.
Now “Yellowstone” will come to a close in November 2024 but there’s still plenty more to come from the Dutton family legacy.
Two more spinoffs — “1944” and “2024” — have officially been ordered for the ever-expanding “Yellowstone” universe. Those come after the success of “1883” and “1923,” which both told origin stories for the Dutton family first making its way out to Montana and then the continued battle to maintain control over what would eventually become the largest ranch in the contiguous ranch in the United States.
There’s still a second season of “1923” coming as well, which stars Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren in lead roles.
“Within five years, we grew Yellowstone from a hit U.S. cable show with five million viewers into a global hit franchise with over 100 million fans around the world and multiple extensions – and, we’re just getting started,” Chris McCarthy, President/CEO, Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios, said in a statement.
“On the heels of 1883 and 1923’s success, our new planned spinoffs, 1944 and 2024, will take audiences on a thrilling, new and unexpected journey with the complex and compelling storytelling that has become a hallmark of the franchise and has helped turn it into a worldwide cultural phenomenon – thanks to the creative mastermind of Taylor Sheridan.”
While “1944” will undoubtedly serve as another origin story for the Dutton family, the new “2024” spinoff remains a bit more of a mystery.
As soon as news broke that “Yellowstone” would be coming to an end with the second half of season 5, series creator Taylor Sheridan along with Paramount scrambled to begin work on a new spinoff that would essentially carry on the story minus Costner in the lead role. It’s not clear if “2024” will serve as that exact spinoff, although reports have stated that the current plan will feature new characters with some crossover from the original series.
Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey has reportedly been in talks to star in the newest “Yellowstone” spinoff for months but nothing has ever been confirmed — at least to this point.
For now, stay tuned for more “Yellowstone” coming in late 2024 with plenty more spinoffs planned for the future.
