Marvel has dramatically shifted release plans for numerous films with only “Deadpool 3” currently expected to hit theaters in 2024…
The end of the actors and writers’ strikes will get Hollywood back to work but it will take some time to get productions up and running again, which means obvious delays in getting films back on the big screen as well as shows returning to television.
That’s why studios are shifting release dates for expected films including Marvel Studios, which usually lays out an ambitious schedule years in advance but those plans have been altered.
With the new release date calendar in place, Marvel only has one film scheduled to hit theaters in 2024 and that will be the highly anticipated sequel “Deadpool 3” starring Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman and Emma Corrin. That will also be the first “Deadpool” movie under the Marvel banner after Disney purchased the majority of assets from FOX, which included all of the “X-Men” characters for the film and TV universe.
“Deadpool 3” shut down production with the strikes but the film is expected to get back underway before Thanksgiving, which should allow shooting to finish on time.
“Deadpool 3” was originally scheduled to hit theaters on May 3, 2024 but now that film will release on July 26, 2024.
The rest of the Marvel calendar has also shifted with every other film scheduled for release in 2024 getting pushed back to 2025 and beyond. Here’s a look at all the changes on the Marvel calendar:
Deadpool 3 — May 3, 2024 to July 26, 2024
Captain America: New World Order — July 26, 2024 to February 14, 2025
Thunderbolts — December 20, 2024 to July 25, 2025
Blade — February 14, 2025 to November 7, 2025
It’s possible there could be more changes coming down the road, especially with the Marvel Cinematic Universe all tying together between film and television, although those dates were the only announcements.
There’s no word on how quickly productions will begin on any of those films outside of “Deadpool 3” but it appears 2024 will be a rather quiet year for Marvel.
