The first trailer for “Deadpool 3” — now known as “Deadpool & Wolverine” — shows Wade Wilson crossing the multiverse in what could be the most important Marvel film in some time…
“Your little cinematic universe is about to change forever. I’m the messiah. I am Marvel Jesus”
Yep, that’s straight out of the new trailer for “Deadpool & Wolverine” — previously just known as “Deadpool 3” — as Wade Wilson gets pulled into a multi-verse adventure in the upcoming third sequel in the franchise.
This will of course be the first “Deadpool” film under the Marvel Studio banner and it appears that Wade Wilson’s return will coincide with a much bigger world building plan that will finally bring the Merc with a Mouth into the same world as The Avengers and other Marvel heroes.
The trailer opens with a celebration for Wade as he’s surrounded by friends and family — plenty of familiar faces amongst them — when a knock on the door interrupts the party. That’s when Wade comes face to face with agents from the TVA — the Time Variance Authority, best known for appearances in “Loki” season 1 and 2.
Somehow Wade Wilson holds the key to some multiverse event as explained by his new handler Paradox (played by “Succession” favorite Matthew Macfayden) and he’s invited to join the larger MCU and prove that he can be a hero right alongside Captain America, the Hulk and others.
The next few flashes give a hint at the multiverse travel that Deadpool will engage in with this latest sequel, which includes a battle in front of the shambles of the 20th Century Fox sign — perhaps an homage to the former home of the X-Men and the “Deadpool” movies before being bought out by Disney.
The trailer ends with Deadpool being blasted through a wall and falling to the ground when he asks for help up from his old pal Wolverine, who quickly snaps out his adamantium claws in response. Hugh Jackman doesn’t even appear in the trailer outside of that scene and one very brief look at the back of his head in a separate flash from the film.
There’s not much else known about “Deadpool & Wolverine” but with the film set for release on July 26, we’ll have to wait until summertime to get some answers. For now, check out the new trailer above.
