In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we’re going to cut the puppet strings and warm up the mortician’s wax as we review the 2024 horror film “Stopmotion”…

With a background in animation and stopmotion filmmaking, Robert Morgan had already received critical acclaim for several of his short films including 2001 short “The Cat With Hands,” with Film Threat calling it “mandatory viewing for anyone who wants to write a horror movie.”

Morgan continued working as an animator and short-film maker but he finally decided to make the jump into feature film making back in 2021 after writing a script alongside Robin King that dabbled with subject matter that he understood all too well.

The British Film Institute handed over the fourth highest amount of funding in history at £905,000 for Morgan to make his film.

The inspiration behind the film was Morgan’s own experience making animated films and the sensation of these creations taking on a life of their own.

The story eventually became about a young stopmotion animator struggling to cope with the loss of her domineering and famous mother as she attempts to create her own film but the lines between fantasy and reality starts blurring together and her movie takes on a life of its own…
