The ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ aren’t going anywhere but back to television for a seventh season after a surprising announcement on Friday…
In a surprising move, ABC announced on Friday that ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ has been picked up for a seventh season already before the sixth season even debuts.
The series from Marvel Television has been a mixed bag of success on ABC with ratings that have gone up and down over the years and it appeared the show was nearing its end after being renewed for a shortened sixth season that will debut in the summer of 2019.
Instead, ABC announced that ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ will come back for another 13-episode seventh season, presumably sometime in 2020.

It must be noted of course that Marvel is owned by Disney and Disney owns ABC but beyond that ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ has been a strong performer internationally and with the upcoming launch of the Disney+ streaming service in late 2019, this is just more content that could land there in the future.
ABC had previously canned two other Marvel series — ‘Agent Carter’ and ‘Inhumans’ — but the company is staying in business with ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ for at least two more seasons.
