The classic series Miracleman by Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman will be reprinted and re-released in 2014 as well as new stories to conclude the famous book…
The classic comic book series Miracleman will come back to life in January 2014 in reprinted editions of the original work by famed authors Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman, as well as new stories written by Gaiman that will be published by Marvel Comics.
The character originated in the 1950’s and over the years saw many different incarnations after being created by Mick Anglo, and was eventually popularized during a series run by Moore and Gaiman that was called ‘the lost Watchmen’ (paying homage to Moore’s acclaimed and award winning miniseries ‘The Watchmen’).
The original works will be reprinted with art and lettering restored from the archives, and in addition to the classic books being re-released, Marvel will also work with Gaiman and writer Mark Buckingham on a new stories for Miracleman that will see the conclusion of the story that started more than 30 years ago.
“The tragedy of Miracleman was that we published two issues, wrote three and a half – and then it all stopped,” Gaiman said. “And Miracleman No. 25 has been sitting in the darkness – nobody has seen it. It was drawn, it was written, it was lettered over 20 years ago. I love the idea that I will get to finish this story.”
Legal battles over the years prevented the character’s rebirth prior to the most recent announcement from Marvel. Comics legend Todd McFarlane was even involved at one point several years ago when he purchased the remaining assets from Eclipse Comics (where Miracleman originated) but later found out that the character was not actually part of their ownership. It remained owned by original creator Mick Anglo, so McFarlane was out of luck.
Now with the legal battle settled, Miracleman will return to comic book shelves for the first time in decades with Gaiman and Buckingham on board to complete the story.
The first issue of Miracleman is expected to land in January 2014.
