Alexandra Daddario is ready to get witchy after scoring the lead role in a new series at AMC based upon the books of late author Anne Rice.
Daddario — who was most recently seen in the HBO series “White Lotus” as well as past appearances in shows such as “True Detective” and films like “We Summon the Darkness” — will lead the cast in the new series “Mayfair Witches,” which already received an eight-episode first season order at AMC.
The show is based upon the books “The Life of the Mayfair Witches” from Rice, which chronicles the lives of a family of witches who have thrived for generations. Daddario will play Dr. Rowan Mayfair — a brilliant physician who discovers that she’s the heir to the family dynasty after her estranged birth mother passes away.
“Alexandra is a singular talent who has lit up the screen in everything she’s been in and we couldn’t be happier to have her on board leading the cast of a series that will be a centerpiece of an expanding Anne Rice universe on AMC+ and AMC,” Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks, said in a statement.
“Mayfair Witches” is one of two major projects from the Anne Rice universe currently in development at AMC including a television adaptation of her hugely popular book “Interview with a Vampire.”
Production on “Mayfair Witches” will start later this year.
