The casting for the next Marvel series Luke Cage is starting to pick up steam with veteran actress Alfre Woodard expected to join the show…
Alfre Woodard — best known for her roles in True Blood, Desperate Housewives and State of Affairs — is closing in on a deal to join Marvel’s latest Netflix series Luke Cage.
Woodard would be joining Mike Colter, who is currently set to portray Luke Cage in the new series as well as first appearing in the upcoming show Marvel’s Jessica Jones, debuting on Netflix later this year.
Woodard is expected to play Minetta, a powerful and influential political figure who runs into Luke Cage during the course of the series. Speculation is that Woodard could be playing a version of Black Mariah, who was a major villain going up against both Luke Cage and Iron Fist (who also has a series coming to Netflix in 2016).
Luke Cage will also join the Netflix line up of Marvel series in 2016.
