Get ready for a new spin on ‘American Horror Story’ with season 8 taking place in the future…
‘American Horror Story’ has tackled a lot of classic horror tropes over the years including the haunted house, the asylum and even the carnival but the upcoming eighth season will go in an entirely new direction.
‘American Horror Story’ creator Ryan Murphy says that he just pitched his idea for season 8 to FX where the show will take place in the future.
“All I’ll say about it is I want to go to the future — still topical, but the future, which I’ve never done,” Murphy said during the Television Critics Association meetings last week.
Murphy did make it clear that his idea for ‘American Horror Story’ season 8 isn’t going to take place in outer space but he couldn’t divulge much more information about his plans.
Perhaps ‘American Horror Story’ could take a ‘Black Mirror’ like twist with technology playing a major role in the upcoming season but Murphy is staying tight lipped about his ideas outside of confirming that Sarah Paulson will return to the show once again.
“I pitched it to [FX CEO] John Landgraf today right after his TCA panel, and he loved it, but he’s asked me not to say what it is,” Murphy said. “I told him and he fell out of his chair with joy.
“I think people will like it, it’s different from what we’ve done before, but I always try and do the opposite of what I’ve done on that show.”
This past season, ‘American Horror Story” tackled the most recent presidential election without introducing any sort of supernatural element to the series for the first time. Now it appears Murphy is looking to boldly go where ‘American Horror Story’ has never gone before with season 8 set in the future.
