“Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” already has a director as Destin Daniel Cretton, who is the main behind “Shang-Chi” will lead the upcoming film from Marvel Studios…
Marvel Studios announced a huge slate of projects at San Diego Comic Con this past weekend including two new “Avengers” films titled “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” and “Avengers: Secret Wars.”
Now one of those films has found a director.
Destin Daniel Cretton — who directed the Marvel Studios’ feature “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” in 2021 — has officially been hired to helm “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” which is due out on May 2, 2025.
That film will be followed by “Avengers: Secret Wars” on November 7, 2025.
Cretton received rave reviews for his take on “Shang-Chi,” which earned over $432 million at the worldwide box office. Now the director will take on one of the most coveted jobs in Hollywood as he becomes just the fourth person to lead an “Avengers” film after Joss Whedon handled the first two films in the franchise followed by Anthony and Joe Russo, who directed both “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame.”

The latest film “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” will serve as one of the final two chapters in the ongoing Multiverse Saga that was announced this past Saturday by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige at San Diego Comic Con.
“The Kang Dynasty” references new Marvel big bad Kang the Conquerer, who is played by “Lovecraft Country” star Jonathan Majors, after he first appeared in the role in the “Loki” series on Disney+.
Kang is an infamous member of Marvel’s rogue’s gallery with dozens of versions of the character appearing over the years thanks to his traveling across time and the multiverse. Majors will next appear in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” in 2023 but he’s already confirmed that the Kang in that film is not the same version that fans first met in “Loki.”
“Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” will serve as the last 1-2 punch for Marvel Studios as part of Phase Six that will bring that particular story to a close after the massive success of the Infinity Saga concluded with “Avengers: Endgame.”
Of course, Cretton signed an overall deal with Marvel after the success of “Shang-Chi” and he’s also got a hand in developing the upcoming “Wonder Man” series that’s in the works at Disney+.
