There’s a new “Batgirl” in town after “In The Heights” start Leslie Grace was cast in the lead role for the upcoming movie headed to HBO Max…
The search for an actress to play “Batgirl” has come to an end.
Leslie Grace — a breakout star from the recent Lin-Manuel Miranda movie “In the Heights” — has landed the lead role in the upcoming film from Warner Bros. that will debut exclusively on HBO Max.
Plans for a “Batgirl” movie have been in the works for quite some time with Joss Whedon previously attached to the project before Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (“Bad Boys for Life”) were brought on as directors with Christina Hodson penning the script.
Of course Batgirl aka Barbara Gordon is one of the most iconic characters in DC Comics history and she’s undergone a lot of changes and evolution over the years.
It’s unclear what story will serve as the center of “Batgirl” and whether or not this will be more of an origin story or somehow involve characters from the Batman universe.
What is known thus far is that Barbara Gordon — the daughter of Gotham Police Commissioner Jim Gordon — will be the lead character in the film but any other details are being kept under wrap.
The “Batgirl” movie will be one of the first films exclusively produced for HBO Max as the streaming service continues to beef up content with original series and now original movies as well.
There’s no timeline for production to start on “Batgirl” or when the movie might be released but at least now the lead role has been cast.
