‘Mr. Robot’ creator Sam Esmail will be leading the way on a new ‘Battlestar Galactica’ series on the upcoming NBC/Universal streaming service…
So say we all!
Sam Esmail — the creator behind ‘Mr. Robot’ and the showrunner for Amazon’s ‘Homecoming’ — will be leading the way on a new ‘Battlestar Galactica’ series that will air on the new NBC/Universal streaming service called ‘Peacock’.
Esmail signed a four-year overall deal at NBCU and this is the latest project that he will develop. Esmail is apparently a massive fan of ‘Battlestar Galactica’ as he looks to tackle a property that first launched back in 1978.
The original ‘Battlestar Galactica’ was largely a flop and promptly cancelled after a single season but in 2004, Ronald D. Moore revived the series for the Syfy network. His version was a critical hit and remains a beloved science-fiction series often celebrated by fans.
The concept of ‘Battlestar Galactica’ takes place after a race of robots known as Cylons launch an attack against humanity on their home planet Caprica. A group of ships escape the onslaught led by the Battlestar Galactica, a ship that was initially set to be decommissioned before the Cylons launched their attack. Led by Commander Adama, the ship carrying humanity’s only hope to survive as the try to stay out of the reach of the Cylons while searching for a new home on a place called Earth.
Now a ‘Battlestar Galactica’ reboot has been in the works for some time but many fans of the series created in 2004 were not happy considering that show is hailed as one of the greatest achievements in science fiction television history. Thankfully, Esmail put any rumors about his plans to remake the Ronald D. Moore series and instead offered a few details about his plans for the new ‘Battlestar Galactica’.
“This will NOT be a remake of the amazing series Ronald D. Moore launched because… why mess with perfection?” Esmail wrote on Twitter. “Instead, we’ll explore a new story within the mythology while staying true to the spirit of Battlestar. So say we all!”

Obviously as production gets underway, Esmail will certainly reveal a few more details about his plan for this new ‘Battlestar Galactica’ series.
Peacock will launch in April 2020 but there’s no word yet on when the new ‘Battlestar Galactica’ will debut on the streaming service.
