There is a script being developed for a ‘Batwoman’ television series with the character set to debut during an Arrow-verse crossover this year…
The CW might finally be ready to go to Gotham City for a ‘Batwoman’ series.
A script order has been given for a ‘Batwoman’ series at the CW after the character is set to debut as part of a three series crossover between ‘Arrow’, ‘The Flash’ and ‘Supergirl’ that will take place later this year.
While nothing is certain that the CW would pick up the ‘Batwoman’ series, it’s obvious that executive producer Greg Berlanti is aiming at transforming that character into the next lead for a new show.
‘Batwoman’ is described as “armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”
In the comics, Kate Kane is openly lesbian and casting for the series is apparently seeking an openly lesbian actress to fill the role as well. ‘Batwoman’ would be the first CW series led by an LGBTQ character after several of the other ‘Arrow-verse’ series have featured characters from the LGBTQ community in the past.
Caroline Dries, who previously worked on ‘The Vampire Diaries’ and ‘Smallville’ is developing the script.
Expect casting news relatively soon as the planned Arrow-verse crossover starts coming together for later this year when Batwoman will first be introduced.
