Ben Cross — a veteran character actor with credits across dozens of films and TV shows — has died at the age of 72.
An Austrian newspaper first reported the news after Cross had arrived in Vienna to receive treatment after he had been diagnosed for cancer.
Born in London, England in 1947, Cross is perhaps best known for his role in the 1982 Academy Award winning movie “Chariots of Fire” where he starred alongside Ian Holm and John Gielgud. Cross also appeared in the 1991 reboot of the “Dark Shadows” series where he played the lead role as Barnabas Collins.
In more recent years, Cross played notorious gangster Mr. Rabbit in the Cinemax series “Banshee” where he worked alongside Antony Starr and Ivana Milicevic. He also appeared as Spock’s father Sarek in the 2009 reboot of “Star Trek” directed by J.J. Abrams.
Cross is survived by his wife and two children.
