“Black Panther 2” is coming in 2022 but there will not be a new actor in the lead role as T’Challa following the death of Chadwick Boseman.
Marvel made the announcement on Thursday that a second film in the series will drop on July 8, 2022 with Ryan Coogler returning to write and direct the sequel.
The film will “explore the world of Wakanda & the rich characters introduced in the first film” but Boseman’s role will not be recast as the studio honors his memory with the upcoming sequel.
Boseman tragically died from colon cancer in August.
As for the “Black Panther” sequel, not much is known right now about plans for the rest of the characters but obviously Coogler will begin crafting that universe in his new script. Coogler was also in charge of the first “Black Panther” film, which went onto gross over $1.3 billion at the box office before being nominated for Best Picture at the 2019 Academy Awards.
The rest of the cast from “Black Panther” is expected to return for the sequel.
