The upcoming Black Widow movie starring Scarlett Johansson is heating up with Marvel circling a few female directors to lead the project…
It looks like Scarlett Johannson is finally getting her own Black Widow movie with Marvel nearing completion on a search for a director to helm the project.
According to Deadline, Marvel has whittled the list of potential directors down to three names, although nothing is set in stone that those will be the only possible candidates. Originally, Marvel had started the search with nearly 50 names before cutting down the list dramatically to arrive at these final three.
The names include Cate Shortland, Amma Asante and Maggie Betts.
Now none of the three reported finalists have ever directed a movie of this magnitude but Marvel is masterful at taking talented young directors and putting them in charge of blockbuster films just like Black Widow.
There’s no word on how quickly Marvel will look to finalized a director for the movie but it’s clear the Black Widow film is a priority as the studio prepares for life after Avengers 4, which opens next year, where several stars including Chris Evans are expected to say goodbye to the comic book genre with that movie.
