Brian K. Vaughan Leaves ‘Under the Dome’

Brian K. Vaughan — one of the people who championed bringing ‘Under the Dome’ to life on CBS has now left the sci-fi drama ahead of season 2…

Many fans know Brian K. Vaughan from his work on the hit ABC series ‘Lost’ as well as work in comic books such as ‘Y: The Last Man’ and his latest book ‘Saga’ but he was also the man responsible for helping to bring Stephen King’s ‘Under the Dome’ to life at CBS.

Working as the creator and part time show runner, Vaughan was instrumental in the show coming to life on TV, but now after one season under his belt, the writer/producer has opted out of a second year at the show.

“I don’t think this has been reported anywhere, but I actually left my position at Under The Dome a few months ago,” Vaughan told Bleeding Cool. “It was the great thrill of my life to help adapt one of the best book’s ever from my all-time hero, but I’ve got two very young kids at home who I never got to see last season, so I’m enormously grateful to CBS and Amblin for letting me out of my contract a little early.”

The series, which returns to CBS on June 30, will now stay under the leadership of new show runner Neal Baer while also having at least a couple of episodes written this season by none other than Stephen King himself.

Vaughan also stated that he’s not looking to get involved in another series for now and will instead focus on his comic book work like the Image series ‘Saga’, which has been praised as a critical hit and one of the best ongoing series in the industry.

It’s always hard to say in these situations if the full story is really just Vaughan wanting to leave on his own accord, or if there’s more at work behind the scenes, but either way ‘Under the Dome’ moves on without him as the new season fires up in late June.
