Clive Barker, who created the entire “Hellraiser” universe, has finally stepped on board as an executive producer for the new series at HBO…
Clive Barker is ready to raise hell again.
The prolific horror writer, who wrote “The Hellbound Heart,” which served as the basis for the entire “Hellraiser” film series, has boarded the upcoming series based on his books that’s headed to HBO.
The “Hellraiser” series is being led by writers Mark Verheiden (“Battlestar Galactica”) and Michael Dougherty (“Trick R Treat”) with Verheiden acting as showrunner.
David Gordon Green, best know for directing the 2018 “Halloween” film as well as the upcoming sequels “Halloween Kills” and “Halloween Ends,” will be directing the initial episodes of the series.
While the series was already in the works, Barker hadn’t been involved until now but it appears he’s excited to join the team after saying he was “delighted the “Hellraiser” mythology is seeing a new life. It’s time the stories went back to their roots. I’m eager to bring to a new audience the most powerful and ancient elements of horror: the darkest evil invading our human lives and how we must find in ourselves the power to resist it.”
“Hellraiser” first came to prominence during a 1987 film written and directed by Barker and the series ended up spawning numerous sequels, comic books and tons of merchandise.
Now HBO appears ready to step back into the “Hellraiser” universe with the new series currently in the works.
