Courteney Cox is currently in talks to reprise her role as Gale Weathers in the upcoming “Scream VII” sequel where Neve Campbell also makes her return to the franchise…
Courteney Cox remains the only cast member to appear in every “Scream” film thus far and it doesn’t look like she’s going to break that streak with the upcoming sequel.
Cox is currently in talks to reprise her role as Gale Weathers for “Scream VII,” which will be directed by original “Scream” writer Kevin Williamson and will also feature the return of Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott after she sat out the sixth film in the series due to a salary dispute with the studio.
Despite Campbell missing out on “Scream VI,” Cox still appeared as a legacy cast member alongside the new group of kids that were originally featured in the fifth “Scream” film.
Now Campbell is back after “Scream VII” faced struggles in recent months after Melissa Barrera was fired from the sequel due to posts she made on social media regarding the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine. Shortly after Barrera’s exit, Jenna Ortega also revealed that she wouldn’t be returning due to scheduling conflicts with her hit Netflix series “Wednesday” going back into production.
Those setbacks didn’t stop Spyglass — the studio producing the “Scream” films” — from pressing forward and Campbell became the main priority to revive the franchise after she missed out on the sixth film in the series. Cox seemed like a natural next step and now it appears she’s closing in on a deal to return for “Scream VII.”
The upcoming film will be directed by Williamson with a script from Guy Busick, who also worked on the fifth “Scream” film as well as “Scream VI.”
