Curious Just How Strong The Mountain from ‘Game of Thrones’ Really Is? (Video)

The power of ‘The Mountain’ Gregor Clegane was on full display during last week’s episode of ‘Game of Thrones’ but anyone curious on the realism of his strength might want to watch these videos…

‘Game of Thrones’ has gone through a few actors during the last four seasons to fill the role of ‘The Mountain’ aka Ser Gregor Clegane, a knight under the command of The Hand of the King, Tywin Lannister. This season, however, producers decided to go with the most menacing choice possible when they found Hafthor Julius Bjornsson — a strongman competitor standing 6’9″ tall and weighing over 400 pounds.

The reason why they had to find a really physically imposing actor is because this season called for the epic battle scene where The Mountain takes on Prince Oberyn Martell in the trial by combat for Tyrion Lannister.

Now without rehashing any of the gory details, The Mountain showcased his strength and power during the fight, but some are always curious how real something could be versus the liberties taken because it’s television.

Well, as it turns out Bjornsson’s day job is one where he performs in strongman competitions all over the world. In these two videos below you can see just how freakishly strong this Icelandic native really is — and please notice in the first video that he’s painted green and dressed as The Hulk:

And here’s one where he dead lifts almost 1000 pounds. In case you were curious that’s probably about 830 pounds more than Oberyn Martell weighs.

So yeah what he did on ‘Game of Thrones’ — totally believable.
