“Deadpool 3” is moving ahead as scheduled under the Marvel Studios banner with the team behind “Bob’s Burgers” taking over writing duties…
“Deadpool 3” is coming from Marvel Studios.
After months of waiting, Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin — best known as part of the creative team behind the animated series “Bob’s Burgers” — have been tapped to write the third installment of the series starring Ryan Reynolds.
The film is expected to remain “R’ rated, which will be a first for Marvel Studios under the leadership of Kevin Feige.
This is also the first confirmed project for Marvel Studios based on one of the characters obtained during the massive sale of FOX to Disney that saw numerous comic book titles returned to the Mouse House including the X-Men and the Fantastic Four.
While a third “Deadpool” movie has been expected for sometime, this is the first official confirmation that the project is moving ahead with new writers on board to handle the script.
Of course, the Molyneux sisters taking over for “Deadpool 3” also means a separate of sorts after Reynolds had teamed with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick for the first two films in the series. It’s not clear if they didn’t have interest in returning for a third film in the series or if Marvel Studios wanted to go in another direction for “Deadpool 3” now that Feige is directing the ship as part of the larger overall cinematic universe.
Reynolds is obviously returning to play the Merc with a Mouth but there’s been no word on any other cast members returning from the first two films in the series.
Another looming question remains how “Deadpool 3” might play into the Marvel Cinematic Universe because right now there’s been no word on how the X-Men or those related characters might be introduced. There have been a ton of theories including a potential tie-in to the upcoming “WandaVision” show that debuts in January on Disney+ as well as the sequel “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” that might somehow find a way to introduce mutants for the first time but that’s all speculation.
What we know for certain is “Deadpool 3” is coming and Marvel Studios won’t try to stamp the film with a PG-13 rating as Reynolds officially joins the Disney family.
