“Let the Right One In” will be adapted for a new pilot at Showtime with Demian Bichir now set to start in the series….
The much beloved horror film “Let the Right One In” is being adapted for the small screen on Showtime and the potential series has found its star.
Demian Bichir — best known for his past work on films such as “The Hateful Eight” and “The Nun” as well as roles on TV series such as “The Bridge” and “Weeds” — has been cast in the lead role for the upcoming pilot that may eventually turn into a series.
Horror fans will certainly recognize “Let the Right One In” as one of the most iconic vampire stories of the past 25 years — first as a book and then adapted into the 2008 film of the same name.
The original concept follows a young boy named Oskar, who is mercilessly bullied at school and he ends up befriending a young girl named Eli who just recently moved into the same apartment building. It turns out, Eli is a vampire, who was turned when she was still just a child so she’s actually much, much older than Oskar despite looking the same age as him.
The film adaptation features one of the most harrowing final scenes in recent horror movie history.
The television version will certainly pay homage to the original with a different concept entirely with Bichir set to play “a father to his 12-year-old daughter and their lives were changed forever 10 years earlier when she was turned into a vampire. Locked in at age 12, perhaps forever, Eleanor lives a closed-in life, able to go out only at night, while her father does his best to provide her with the minimal amount of human blood she needs to stay alive.”
“Away” series creator Andrew Hinderaker is on board to act as showrunner for the “Let the Right One In” adaptation, which has now been ordered to pilot with a potential series order at Showtime.
There have actually been multiple attempts at developing the book and film into a TV series in the past but now Showtime is exploring that option after the network has previously dabbled in horror with shows like “Penny Dreadful.”
