Dominique Thorne will make her first appearance as Ironheart in the upcoming “Black Panther” sequel titled “Wakanda Forever”….
Dominique Thorne will make her Marvel debut a little earlier than expected.
The actress who will portray Riri Williams — a brilliant teenager who constructs her own Iron Man suit — will get her own series called “Ironheart” on Disney+ but first she’ll make an appearance in the upcoming sequel “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” directed by Ryan Coogler.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige made the announcement this week.
“We’re shooting Black Panther: Wakanda Forever right now, and the character of Riri Williams you will meet in Black Panther 2 first,” Feige told ComicBook.com. “She started shooting, I think, this week, before her Ironheart series.”
In the comics, Riri Williams is a genius student who attends MIT and actually begins developing her own suit of armor based on Iron Man’s technology. She succeeds in building her own suit and catches the attention of Tony Stark, who befriends her and encourages her to continue building upon her original idea. After Stark falls into a coma following the events of Civil War II, Riri decides to honor her mentor by making an even more advanced suit of armor complete with an artificial intelligence Stark equipped inside.
Obviously there’s no telling how much of that origin story will change from the comics to the Marvel Cinematic Universe but there’s a lot of excitement about the introduction of Ironheart into the movies.
Thorne landed the role as Riri Williams following her appearance in “If Beale Street Could Talk” and “Judas and the Black Messiah.”

Once Thorne completes her filming with “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” she will then move onto begin production on her own Disney+ series for Marvel.
Details surrounding the story for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” remain shrouded in mystery as Coogler continues the story but sadly without star Chadwick Boseman following his death in 2020.
