Ewan McGregor fuels rumors that he’s returning to the ‘Star Wars’ franchise to play Obi-Wan Kenobi again…
As much as the ‘Star Wars’ prequels have been critically slammed since first being released, there were a few bright spots in those films — perhaps none greater than Ewan McGregor in his role as a younger Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Of course, McGregor had his work cut out for him after playing the same role Alec Guinness originated with the first ‘Star Wars’ trilogy but he was certainly well received by audiences as the Jedi master responsible for training Anakin Skywalker.
In recent months there have been rumors that Lucasfilm has started to develop a stand along Obi-Wan Kenobi feature film with McGregor returning to reprise the role he last played in 2005’s ‘Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith’. While McGregor claims he doesn’t know anything more about the movie than anybody else, he said following his win at the 2017 Golden Globes that he would gladly return to the part in the ‘Star Wars’ universe.
“There’s a lot of talk. I’d be happy to play him again,” McGregor said. “I don’t know any more about it more than you do. I saw the new one [Star Wars: The Last Jedi] over Christmas. I thought it was really, really beautiful. I loved it.”
McGregor also happened to be sporting a beard during his appearance at the Golden Globe awards, which only further fueled speculation that perhaps he’s already preparing to pick up the lightsaber once again to play Obi-Wan in an upcoming ‘Star Wars’ feature film.
McGregor has often said he would gladly return to the role if the opportunity came up and now it appears closer than even if ‘Star Wars’ wants him back, he will happily play Ben Kenobi at least one more time.
