Christopher Landon moved on from “Scream VII” and he’ll now direct a new horror film featuring werewolves based on a short story…
From Ghostface to werewolves…
Christopher Landon — who was originally slated to direct “Scream VII” before dropping out of the sequel — has booked his next gig with “Big Bad,” which is based on a short story by author Chandler Baker.
Of course, “Scream VII” came to a screeching halt after Spyglass — the studio in charge of the film — fired actress Melissa Barrera over social media posts regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict. Days later, Jenna Ortega also dropped out of the film, citing scheduling conflicts over filming obligations with her hit Netflix series “Wednesday.”
It wasn’t long after that Landon announced that he had also exited “Scream VII,” calling it a “dream project that turned into a nightmare.”
Now the “Freaky” and “Happy Death Day” director has found a new gig with a werewolf horror film set up at Lionsgate with Baker attached to adapt her story into the screenplay for the movie. Here’s a synopsis for the original story, which was published as part of an anthology called “Creature Feature.”
“The Strauss family is on knife’s edge. Sam is a resentful stay-at-home dad. Rachel feels the restlessness in her blood returning. Their children are getting out of hand. And a recent mudslide has forced the wolves out of the woods to look for food. As dusk falls and tensions rise, the family must come together to survive the night — from the threats outside and those within.”
Landon has found plenty of success in the horror industry with his creative, twisty and often times hilarious films and he was expected to inject some of that same invention into the latest “Scream” sequel. Unfortunately, those plans were scrapped and the future of the entire “Scream” franchise remains in question.
Obviously, Landon bounced back rather quickly with his new film “Big Bad” at LIonsgate.
