It’s possible Buffy the Vampire Slayer could be revived at FOX but only if original creator Joss Whedon is on board…
Will Buffy the Vampire Slayer live to slay again?
Well according to FOX boss Gary Newman the idea of reviving Buffy the Vampire Slayer is something that comes up quite often at the network and by all accounts it’s something they’d be interested in exploring under one condition…
FOX will only consider it if ‘Buffy’ creator Joss Whedon was involved.
“I think if you look in our library, ‘Buffy’ is probably the most ripe show we have for bringing back,” Newman said via Variety.
“It’s something we talk about frequently, and Joss Whedon is really one of the greatest creators we ever worked with. When Joss decides it’s time, we’ll do it. And until Joss decides it’s time, it won’t happen.”
FOX owns the rights to several properties created by Whedon including Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly.
Several years ago there was talk about a new Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie being developed without Whedon being attached and the backlash was so severe that the project eventually faded away and hasn’t been talked about in forever.
Obviously FOX showing interest in a revival of Buffy the Vampire Slayer shouldn’t be a surprise considering the success the network has had in recent years bringing back series such as The X-Files and Prison Break. It would be huge coup if FOX could somehow convince Whedon to return for another ‘Buffy’ series or even a mini-series should he want to reunite the cast.
Funny enough Buffy the Vampire Slayer just celebrate it’s 21st anniversary since first debuting on the air and now there’s talk about a potential revival.
Will it ever happen? Would you want to see a Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival?
