The counselors at Camp Crystal Lake are safe no more!

A new “Friday the 13th” prequel series is currently in development at Peacock with “Hannibal” creator Bryan Fuller on board to serve as executive producer and showrunner.

The series titled “Crystal Lake” is expected to take place before the events in “Friday the 13th” where a group of camp counselors at Camp Crystal Lake start dying in aggressively horrifying ways until the killer is finally revealed as Pamela Voorhees — the mother of a young boy named Jason Voorhees, who drowned after the counselors failed to pay attention to him while they were off having sex.

While details about the prequel series have not been revealed, rumors are swirling that “Crystal Lake” could take an approach similar to “Bates Motel” — the “Psycho” prequel series that aired on A&E and received critical acclaim as an origin story for future killer Norman Bates.

The new series will be produced by A24 — the same studio that developed films such as “Hereditary” and the recent film “X” and the prequel “Pearl” — with Fuller leading the creative team after he previously developed series such as “American Gods” and Star Trek: Discovery.”

“I discovered Friday the 13th in the pages of Famous Monsters magazine when I was 10 years old and I have been thinking about this story ever since,” Fuller said in a statement.

“When it comes to horror, A24 raises the bar and pushes the envelope and I’m thrilled to be exploring the camp grounds of Crystal Lake under their banner. And [NBCUniversal’s] Susan Rovner is simply the best at what she does. It’s a pleasure and an honor to be working with her again.”

News about a “Friday the 13th” series comes on the heels of a long court battle over rights to the series, which kept the horror franchise in limbo for quite some time. A ruling was finally made in the case that gave original screenwriter Victor Miller control over the script and the characters but he did not maintain the rights to the “Friday the 13th” name, the adult version of Jason Voorhees or the hockey mask that has defined that character for so many years.

That explains why the new series is titled “Crystal Lake” rather than some version of “Friday the 13th.”

Either way, horror fans can rejoice that some version of the “Friday the 13th” franchise is being resurrected with the upcoming prequel series on Peacock.
