The upcoming ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel has added another key cast member as Miranda Richardson joins the show in a series regular role…
The ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel continues to add to the cast ahead of production starting this summer.
The latest addition is Oscar nominated actress Miranda Richardson — best known for her work in films such as ‘Damage’, ‘Tom & Viv’ as well as a memorable part as Rita Skeeter in the ‘Harry Potter’ films.
She joins the ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel cast in a series regular role joining fellow Oscar nominee Naomi Watts as well as Josh Whitehouse, Naomi Ackle, Denise Gough and several others who were previously announced.
The series was developed by Jane Goldman and ‘Game of Thrones’ creator George R.R. Martin with Goldman serving as the showrunner on the upcoming prequel.
While very little is known about the ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel, the story takes place thousands of years before the current story that fans are familiar with based on the original series. The prequel “chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour” while exploring “the horrifying secrets of Westeros’s history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend.”
The original tease for the prequel was that it would be called ‘The Long Night’, which references a period of darkness and winter in Westeros that supposedly lasted a generation where children were born and died without ever seeing the sunlight. It was during this time that the White Walkers first descended upon Westeros in an attempt to wipe out all life in the known world.
Production on the ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel will kick off later this year but assuming the show is picked up to series by HBO, it won’t debut until at least some time in 2020.
