For the first time since the show was launched, Game of Thrones will be skipping San Diego Comic Con in 2018…
Winter is not coming to San Diego Comic Con 2018.
On Thursday, HBO confirmed that it would not be sending Game of Thrones or Westworld to the massive pop culture expo hitting San Diego from July 18-22.
It’s a bit of a surprise considering the huge amount of attention paid to Game of Thrones each and every year as the show has always been a hallmark of the yearly convention since the series first started.
As for Westworld, the series made its first appearance at San Diego Comic Con last year but with the season two finale set to air on June 24 and the third season not yet in production, that show will be skipping out as well.
“Due to production schedules and air dates for Game of Thrones and Westworld, these series will not be presented at San Diego Comic-Con this summer,” HBO said in a statement on Thursday. “HBO has a longstanding relationship with SDCC, and we are very grateful for the fans’ enthusiastic response over the years. We look forward to returning in the future.”
While neither Game of Thrones or Westworld will present a panel at San Diego Comic Con, perhaps the more disappointing news for fans is that the shows will not feature any sort of activation at the pop culture gathering. In recent years, the Game of Thrones experience has been one of the most popular attractions at San Diego Comic Con where fans can view props from the series as well as sit on the Iron Throne. Last year also marked a standout year for Westworld with their attraction being one of the most talked about events of the entire convention.
Unfortunately both will be absent with HBO skipping San Diego Comic Con completely in 2018.
