The beloved “Gargoyles” animated series is getting a live action remake from James Wan’s production company and “Annabelle” writer Gary Dauberman…
The classic “Gargoyles” animated series will get a live action reboot for Disney+ with horror master James Wan’s company Atomic Monster and screenwriter Gary Dauberman behind the project.
“The Gargoyles are out of the bag,” Wan said about the project. “Excited to be working with Gary again, on this! He’s a true fan.”
“Gargoyles” originally ran from 1994 to 1997 and featured a darker tone and more complex storylines than many animated series from that time, which earned the show comparisons to series such as “Batman: The Animated Series” and the “X-Men” animated series as well.
The original premise behind the show was a group of statues were transported from Scotland to New York City where a thousand year old enchanted curse is broken and the Gargoyes are re-awakened and take on a new role as the nighttime protectors over the city. During the daytime, the Gargoyles would transform back to stone again.
The series ran for 73 episodes with voice actors for the series including Keith David, Ed Asner and “Star Trek” favorites Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis.
Wan’s Atomic Monster will serve as the executive producer behind the project with longtime collaborator Dauberman serving as the lead writer and showrunner. Dauberman has teamed with Wan numerous times in the past while writing several films in “The Conjuring” universe including “Annabelle,” “Annabelle Creation” and “Annabelle Comes Home” as well as “The Nun.”
Dauberman eventually transitioned into direction for “Annabelle Comes Home” and now he’ll serve as the creative force behind the new “Gargoyles” series in development at Disney+.
