Fans of Gotham and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will have to wait a little while longer to find out if those shows will be renewed or cancelled…
As networks continue to prepare for upfront presentations next week, a pair of popular series remain in limbo with no word on whether or not they’ll be renewed or cancelled.
Gotham — the Batman prequel series on FOX — is possibly in the most precarious and interesting position as one of the last remaining shows that the network has to make a decision on by next week.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Gotham‘s fate actually lies in the hands of the Lethal Weapon TV series as strange as that might sound. The report states that FOX wants to renew Lethal Weapon but that can only happen if the studio finds a replacement actor for the lead role after Clayne Crawford was let go from the show due to his behavior on set.
If no replacement is found by Monday, FOX would then look to renew Gotham for another season while cancelling Lethal Weapon.
As for Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. — the series on ABC remains the lone show that hasn’t received word on being renewed or cancelled after the Disney owned company dropped the hammer on numerous series on Friday while ordering several new shows at the same time.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. hasn’t been a huge ratings success for ABC but the show has held steady with viewers on Friday nights, which is typically a very tough time slot to get viewership. On the downside, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is a rather expensive show to produce so that could work against them when it comes time for either renewal or cancellation.
The producers behind Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. had previously stated that they treated this season’s finale as a series finale so at least if the show gets cancelled, fans won’t be left on a cliffhanger but rather have a completion to the story that’s being told this season.
The fate of both shows should be revealed by next week at the latest when the upfront presentations for the networks are unveiled.
