The “Halloween” franchise is reportedly up on the auction block again with Miramax seeking new partners after a three-film deal with Blumhouse ended…
It’s been well documented since 1978 that Michael Myers will not die and that doesn’t appear to be changing any time soon.
According to a new report from Bloody Disgusting, Miramax is once again shopping for a new studio partner to take over the “Halloween” franchise following the end of a three film deal with Blumhouse.
Blumhouse under the direction of David Gordon Green produced the recent “Halloween” trilogy that effectively served as a sequel series based on the original film from John Carpenter and Debra Hill while ignoring all of the other subsequent movies. “Halloween” in 2018 was the most well received of those films while “Halloween Ends” — the final movie in the series — was by far the most controversial.
Now that the deal with Blumhouse has ended, Miramax has already received interest from numerous studios potentially reviving the “Halloween” franchise with new films and even the potential for a TV series.
A24 — the indie studio behind horror hits like “Talk to Me” and “Hereditary” — has been rumored as one of the frontrunners to land at least some part of the “Halloween” franchise, although it’s possible that could be solely for a TV series. In fact, there have been numerous reports that a television series centered around the divisive third film — “Halloween III: Season of the Witch” — could serve as the basis for a new TV show.
Of course, “Halloween III” is the only film in the entire franchise history that doesn’t involve Michael Myers but the movie has taken on a cult classic status among many fans in recent years.
Beyond that, “Halloween” is a proven winner at the box office and horror — alongside comic book movies — appear to be the biggest attraction for moviegoers these days. So it stands to reason that studios might want to invest in new “Halloween” films with a built in audience while also hopefully attracting a new group of fans as well.
From the sound of things, Miramax is ramping up discussions rather quickly so it may not be that long before “Halloween” has a new home and that’s when we’ll learn about potential sequels as well as any TV series that may come from the long running franchise.
