Henry Cavill may be putting back on the blue and red tights as the actor is currently in talks to reprise his role as Superman but there’s a twist…
Look up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane!
No, it’s Henry Cavill.
The veteran actor who portrayed Superman in several DC films including the standalone feature “Man of Steel” as well as “Batman V. Superman” and the “Justice League” movie is in talks with Warner Bros. on potentially returning to play the character again.
Now here’s the twist — Cavill isn’t expected to return for a “Man of Steel” sequel but rather to make an appearance in at least one or more upcoming DC feature films. It’s not clear which film Cavill is being courted to appear but DC has several high profile projects in the works where it would fit that Superman would show up.
While movies such as “Wonder Woman 1984” and James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” have already wrapped filming, Matt Reeves has his film “The Batman” that was already in production when the COVID-19 outbreak brought the film industry to a screeching halt. While Superman has certainly shown up in previous films involving the Caped Crusader, it’s highly unlikely that he’ll join Robert Pattinson in “The Batman.”
Instead there are three potential films coming up where Superman could certainly make an impact. There’s a “Shazam” sequel starring Zachary Levi and Superman already (sort of) made an appearance in the first movie, albeit just a brief look at his outfit during a credits scene and it wasn’t Cavill wearing the tights that time.
There’s “Aquaman 2” starring Jason Momoa, who already worked with Cavill on “Justice League.” The most intriguing possibility, however, might be the upcoming “Black Adam” movie starring Dwayne Johnson in the lead role. That character has primarily been an villain through DC Comics history, although in recent years Black Adam has taken on an anti-hero role.
Johnson is a huge box office commodity and seeing him clash with Superman would certainly bring an even bigger element to the “Black Adam” movie. Of course that’s just speculation for now but Cavill is definitely considering a return to play the Man of Steel again.
Stay tuned for more details on that news as it becomes available.
