Production on “House of the Dragon” has officially started.
The highly anticipated “Game of Thrones” spinoff began table readings this week with filming on the series expected to start soon after cast photos were revealed. This is the first “Game of Thrones” spinoff to get ordered to series since the main show ended in 2019.
This series will detail the bloody Targaryen civil war that’s best known as the Dance of Dragons, which was mentioned at various points during the eight season run of “Game of Thrones.”
The main storyline revolves around King Viserys Targaryen and his plan to have his daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen sit on the Iron Throne after his death. That would be the first time in Westeros history that a woman would rule the Seven Kingdoms, which doesn’t sit well with many of the people closest to the king but none more so than his new wife Alicent Hightower, who believes that her son Aegon II deserves to be the rightful heir to his father’s throne.
Needless to say when King Viserys finally perishes, the battle for the Iron Throne ignites a bloody civil war pitting Targaryen against Targaryen to see who will finally rule.
Earlier this week, the official “House of the Dragon” social media pages shared photos of the cast as they began the table read for the first episode.
