“House of the Dragon” will return for season 2 in June with the “Game of Thrones” spinoff anchoring the summer lineup for the cable network…
Prepare for Fire and Blood this summer.
The highly anticipated second season of “House of the Dragon” is expected to debut in June on HBO with an exact date still to be announced.
The news comes courtesy of JB Perrette, the head of global streaming & games for Warner Bros. Discovery, who revealed the news during an appearance at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference on Monday.
“When we look at the next 12-18-24 months, we have all of our four biggest HBO tentpoles – House of the Dragon Season Two coming in June,” Perrette said while also mentioning titles such as “The Last of Us,” “The White Lotus” and “Euphoria.”
It’s been expected that “House of the Dragon” would debut this summer but it’s the first time a more definitive date has been announced.
When “House of the Dragon” season 1 ended, Rhaenyra Targaryen’s claim to the Iron Throne was usurped by her younger half-brother Aegon along with a coup from his grandfather, Otto Hightower and his mother Alicent Hightower following the death of their father, Viserys Targaryen. As a result, Rhaenyra raised her banners and prepared to fight for her claim to the Iron Throne but tragedy struck first after her son Lucerys flew to Storm’s End to parlay with their cousin Borros Baratheon to gain his allegiance in the coming war. Sadly, Aemond Targaryen already beat him there but Borros refused to allow any harm to come to Lucerys under his roof and he allowed the boy to fly away on his dragon.
Unfortunately, Aemond was taunted into going after the boy, who was involved in the fight as children that cost him an eye. On the back of his much bigger and older dragon Vhagar, Aemond flew after Lucerys to taunt him and scare him. In the midst of the chase, Vhagar ended up in conflict with Lucerys’ dragon Arrax and the massive beast cut them both down with Rhaenyra’s son falling to his death.
News about Lucerys’ death reached Rhaenyra just as “House of the Dragon” season 1 ended just as “The Dance of the Dragons” is about to begin with the Targaryen civil war expected to fully erupt in the second season.
Unlike the first season, “House of the Dragons” season 2 will only consist of eight episodes rather than 10 with the show now set to debut in June.
