A new series based on the 1997 slasher film “I Know What You Did Last Summer” has been ordered at Amazon Prime.
A “young adult” adaptation will be made with the producers for the show including James Wan (“The Conjuring” series, “Aquaman”) as well as Sara Goodman (“Preacher,” “Outsiders”).
The original movie from writer Kevin Williamson (“Scream”) was loosely based in the 1973 novel by Lois Duncan with an all-star cast from the 1990’s including Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe and Freddie Prinze Jr.
The story revolved around those four teens getting involved in a car accident and killing a man on the night of their high school graduation. One year later, the friends are reunited at home along with a killer stalking them seeking revenge for the man they left for dead.
A sequel followed that movie — “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer” — and a third film in the franchise eventually came along in 2006 titled “I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer” but that movie featured an entirely different cast.
“The best horror franchises always have another scare coming, and this ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ series from Sara Goodman is a perfectly twisted update to the iconic slasher movie,” Albert Cheng, COO and co-head of television at Amazon Studios said in a statement.
“Any way you slice it, our global Prime Video customers will love this modern take on the fan favorite film.”
Goodman will be writing the scripts for the new “I Know What You Did Last Summer” series but no word yet on how quickly the show will get into production.
