Academy Award winner Jared Leto will star in an upcoming “Tron” sequel that will once again revive the classic movie from Disney…
Jared Leto has confirmed he will be leading the cast for a new sequel in the “Tron” franchise at Disney.
The Oscar winner announced the news on Monday via Twitter where he expressed his excitement for the upcoming movie that will be directed by “Lion” filmmaker Garth Davis.
“I am so very excited and proud to confirm that YES – I will be starring in TRON,” Leto wrote. “We will work as hard as we possibly can to create something that I hope you all will love. We have some very special ideas in store for you all.
“I’m struck with such gratitude for the opportunity to bring this movie to life, especially as both the original video game and the film affected me so deeply as a young child. The fact that I get to be a part of this new chapter is mind-blowing.”

In a different message that was later deleted, Leto seemed to reveal the title of the upcoming sequel as “Tron: Ares” but no official announcement has been made by the studio.
At this time, it’s not expected that Leto’s upcoming take on “Tron” will be connected to the two previous films in the franchise. The original “Tron” released back in 1982 starred Jeff Bridges as a computer programmer named Kevin Flynn, who is transported into a virtual world inside the software of a mainframe computer where he interacts with different programs in an attempt to escape. A sequel called “Tron: Legacy” was then released in 2010 with a storyline that followed Flynn’s son as he responds to a mysterious message sent to him by his father after he went missing years earlier and he’s eventually transported into that same virtual world where he’s forced to help stop a malevolent program from infecting the real world.
There’s no word at this time regarding the story that will be followed in the upcoming “Tron” sequel but Leto will lead the cast with Davis attached to direct.
