Jessica Chastain is in early talks to join the latest ‘X-Men’ film titled ‘Dark Phoenix’…
Jessica Chastain — best known for her roles in ‘The Martian’ ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ and ‘The Zookeeper’s Wife’ — has entered into talks to take on the primary villain role in the upcoming film ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ from FOX.
If a deal is finalized, Chastain would join a growing cast for the upcoming ‘X-Men’ sequel including Sophie Turner, who plays Jean Grey — the subject of the Dark Phoenix saga — as well as Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender.
Current rumors are that Chastain would play Lilandra, a famous character from ‘X-Men’ history.
Lilandra is the Empress of the Shi’ar Empire, who shares a bond with Charles Xavier throughout her history in the comic books. In the original ‘Dark Phoenix’ saga, Lilandra plays a role in trying to contain Jean Grey after she journeys into deep space and consumes a star to gain its energy but simultaneously causes it to go into supernova, which destroys a nearby planet. While details are sketchy at best, Lilandra is expected to come to Earth looking to capture and destroy the Phoenix force in ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’.
The film will shoot in Montreal with veteran ‘X-Men’ writer Simon Kinberg also set to make his directorial debut on the film.
‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ will open in theaters on Nov. 2, 2018.
