Jessica Lange was the star for the first four seasons of ‘American Horror Story’ but after making a brief cameo last season, she says she’s likely done with the franchise…
After starring in the first four seasons of ‘American Horror Story’, Jessica Lange opted to move onto new roles while still frequently collaborating with Ryan Murphy.
Her latest work with the ‘American Horror Story’ creator is a new series on Netflix called ‘The Politician’ where she stars alongside Ben Platt and Zoey Deutch. While she enjoys working alongside Murphy with whatever he’s doing, Lange says she’s likely make her last appearance in ‘American Horror Story’ after popping in for a brief cameo during season 8 titled ‘Apocalypse’ where she reprised her role from the first season.
“I don’t think so,” Lange told EW recently. “I feel like I got the best of it in those first four seasons. Great characters. It was exciting to do. I worked with some of my favorite actors but I can’t see that we could ever get back to that.
“Just that tiny little reprise, that part [in Apocalypse] that was enough.”
Lange won a pair of Emmy Awards for her work on ‘American Horror Story’ — first as a supporting actress in a limited series in the debut season affectionally referred to as ‘Murder House’ and then she won for best actress in a limited series for season 3 titled ‘Coven’.
She last took on a starring role in ‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ in season 4 but afterwards Lange said that was probably her last time taking on a lead part in the anthology series.
As far as what will come next for her outside of the first season of ‘The Politician’, Lange plans on teaming up with Murphy again on a different project, it just won’t be a return to ‘American Horror Story’.
“We’re trying to develop this piece on Dietrich, from those kind of Las Vegas years to the end. We’ve got a really good script that Michael Cristofer wrote,” Lange revealed. “At one time, Ryan thought he might want to direct it but he’s got a thousand other things that are going on. I don’t particularly want to wait.
“So, if we can get this going next year it’ll be great. Ryan will produce and I can sing like Dietrich because she had a very limited range.”
‘The Politician’ is currently available on Netflix while ‘American Horror Story’ lives on with the current season titled ‘1984’ airing on Wednesday nights at 10 p.m. on FX.
