The upcoming ‘Joker’ movie directed by Todd Phillips will come along with an ‘R’ rating, which opens up all sorts of possibilities in this origin story…
The origin story behind the creation of the Joker was going to be hard to tell without an ‘R’ rating — and that is exactly what will happen when the new film from Todd Phillips opens later this year.
On Sunday, Phillips revealed a new photo of Joaquin Phoenix getting into character for ‘Joker’ and he was asked about the rating for the upcoming movie due out on October 4.
“It will be Rated R. I’ve been asked this a lot. Just assumed people knew. Sorry,” Phillips wrote in a response to a fan question.
It’s been rumored for a while that ‘Joker’ would almost certainly be rated ‘R’ considering the dark tone of the initial trailer and the truly diabolical nature of this character even when playing opposite Batman in the comics.
‘Joker’ will see the transformation of this seemingly normal man as he dissolves into madness before finally becoming the ‘Clown Prince of Crime’ and one of the most iconic villains of all time.
The reception for the initial trailer of ‘Joker’ has been very well received as DC and Warner Bros have dramatically shifted gears with their film universe following critical disasters such as ‘Justice League’ and ‘Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice’.
‘Joker’ will also try to succeed on the heels of other ‘R’ rated superhero fare such as ‘Deadpool’ and ‘Deadpool 2’, which were both commercially and critically successful.
‘Joker’ lands in theaters on Oct. 4 nationwide.
