Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as Frank Castle aka The Punisher for the upcoming Disney+ series “Daredevil: Born Again”…
The Punisher is back.
Jon Bernthal — who played Frank Castle aka The Punisher on the original ‘Daredevil” series as well as “The Punisher” spinoff on Netflix — will reprise his role for the upcoming Disney+ series “Daredevil: Born Again.”
The series will reunite Bernthal with former castmates Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, who are also returning for the 18-episode series being produced by Marvel Studios.
While the title borrows from a comic book arc made famous by writer Frank Miller, the original storyline that involved Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin discovering Daredevl’s true identity as Matt Murdock and then turning his life into a living hell didn’t actually involve The Punisher so obviously the series will be deviating in at least some ways from the source material.
Still, Bernthal’s return is a welcome addition to the series after he received rave reviews for his portrayal as The Punisher and there was hope that perhaps he would return to officially join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While Bernthal is returning, it appears several other castmates from the original “Daredevil” series will not be coming back for the new series. Deborah Ann Woll, who portrayed Matt’s assistant and eventual girlfriend Karen Page, and Eldon Henson, who played Matt’s law partner and best friend Foggy Nelson, are not returning for the new “Daredevil: Born Again.” It’s unclear at this time if the roles will be recast or those characters just aren’t expected to appear in the new series, although that would be seriously deviating from the original storyline.
Both Karen and Foggy play major roles in the comic book version of “Born Again” but it remains to be seen what’s in store for the new series.
“Daredevil: Born Again” is expected to kick off production in New York in March with the series expected to debut on Disney+ in Spring 2024.
