Jon Favreau has officially joined the Star Wars family as the writer and director will helm a new television series for Disney…
Jon Favreau is going to a galaxy far, far away.
The veteran writer and director who helped launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe after directing the first two Iron Man films has now signed on to executive produce and write a Star Wars live action series being developed for Disney’s new streaming platform that is expected to launch in 2019.
In addition to his work on the first two Iron Man films, Favreau has been a part of numerous projects over the years including the recent Jungle Book movie for Disney as well as the forthcoming live action Lion King film starring Donald Glover. Favreau started in the film business through the indies with projects such as Swingers and Made where he starred alongside close friend and long time collaborator Vince Vaughn.
Now Favreau will tackle the Star Wars universe with this new live action series for Disney.
“If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure,” Favreau said in a release from Disney.
There’s no exact timeline on a release for the new Star Wars series but this is the latest high profile addition to the Lucasfilm family after the company added Game of Thrones show runners David Benioff and Dan Weiss to develop a new series of films just recently as well in addition to Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson doing the same with a separate series of Star Wars films in the works as well.
