Jonathan Banks will play his iconic role as Mike Ehrmantraut in the upcoming ‘Breaking Bad’ movie titled ‘El Camino’…
Despite his death during the final season, Jonathan Banks will return as Mike Ehrmantraut in ‘El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie’.
The veteran actor confirmed the news on the red carpet ahead of the Emmy Awards on Sunday night when he broke the news that he would be making an appearance in the film that stars Aaron Paul, who is also returning as former meth maker Jesse Pinkman.
“Yes,” Banks answered when asked if he was in the ‘Breaking Bad’ movie. “They’ll hit me in the head for saying this, but yes. Why not? None of those guys hit very hard anyway.”

Technically, Banks isn’t returning to play Mike Ehrmantraut again because he’s still currently in that same role in the ongoing ‘Breaking Bad’ prequel, ‘Better Call Saul’. Banks has received rave reviews for his performance including his nomination as Best Supporting Actor at the Emmy’s on Sunday night.
Now Banks making an appearance in ‘El Camino’ doesn’t mean the character is somehow miraculously alive after he was shot and killed by Walter White during the final season of ‘Breaking Bad’ but rather it’s likely that he’ll show up in some kind of flashback during the movie. There has been a ton of speculation that Bryan Cranston would almost certainly make an appearance as well to reprise his role as Walter White as well.
‘Breaking Bad’ creator Vince Gilligan was able to keep the movie under wraps for months during filming in New Mexico so it’s possible all sorts of past characters will pop up in the movie that follows Jesse after his escape from a Nazi compound where he was kept captive and forced to cook meth.
‘El: Camino: A Breaking Bad’ movie will be released on October 11 on Netflix with a short theatrical run starting that same weekend in select theaters across the nation.
