The upcoming ‘Candyman’ sequel from producer Jordan Peele has started negotiations for the lead role of the man who will take over the role as a boogeyman with a hook on his hand…
There may soon be a new ‘Candyman’ in town.
The ‘spiritual sequel’ to the original 1992 horror classic that’s being produced by Jordan Peele is currently in negotiations with ‘Aquaman’ star Yahya Abdul-Mateen to portray the deadly boogeyman that was played by Tony Todd in the original film.
Abdul-Mateen made his biggest impact playing the role of Black Manta in ‘Aquaman’ opposite Jason Momoa and he is expected to return to the sequel of that movie as well, although plans for that film are just getting started.
Meanwhile, Peele is producing the sequel to ‘Candyman’ with Nia DaCosta on board to direct. The upcoming film is expected to return to the came Chicago neighborhood where the original movie took place — the now-gentrified section of Chicago where the Cabrini-Green housing projects once stood.
The ‘Candyman’ sequel is expected to land in theaters on June 12, 2020.
